Discord’s Announcement Channel Feature
This Discord feature helps with efficiency
Discord is always rolling out with new and useful updates. But since there are so many it’s hard to decipher which one I need to use in my community because we’re just gamers, streamers, and writers. I got good news, I found a new feature that is very useful when it comes to posting one message across Discords.
Do you have something that you want to share in multiple Discords? If you’re like me, you’ve collected at least over 10 Discords. I’m over 20, but who’s counting? I have this newsletter… the one you’re reading right now. It goes straight to the subscribers’ email. I also like to share this on my social media and in Discords about gaming and technology. But it’s so tedious. togo into multiple Discords and share in the right channel. And it feels…spammy. So, what can I do to be more efficient?
Discord Announcement Channel
Aight so, boom. First things first, you need a Discord server and it has to be a community Discord. Sign up for Discord here.
- Go to the left side of your server
2. Click the arrow
3. Select Server Settings
4. Scroll down to Community and enable Community. Mine looks different because I activated my community settings before doing this tutorial… So follow on your screen for an accurate representation
Set up your community settings, but you can do that later!
Go back to the left panel of the Discord server and you’ll see some changes like a moderator channel and other housekeeping things.
5. Create a new channel. My channel is under Important Tings, add your new channel wherever you see fit.
My Announcement channel is named Newsletter since that’s what I post in there.
Here is where it gets good. Now that you have a community Discord, and an announcement channel, here is how you make big brain moves with it.
The announcement channel is different from the other channels because it has a Follow button…well what’s the Follow button for??
It’s for other Discord servers to get updates from this channel in their Discords! Ok, peep this. Discord A (that’s me), creates an announcement channel.
- Discord B hits the follow button in Discord A.
2. Discord B then selects where they want the channel announcements to be displayed.
An admin in Discord B needs to be invited to Discord A to follow the announcement channel.
After you’ve set up the community Discord, the announcement channel, and invited people to follow the channel, it’s time to publish inside the channel.
3. Send a message in the channel and you’ll see a Publish button pop up. If you’re on mobile, long press your message like you’re trying to edit it, and the Publish option will pop up.
4. Once you Publish it, it will be sent out to the other Discords who follow you.
You can also modify an existing channel to an Announcement Channel. And that is how you use Discord Announcement Channels.
Bonus Content
The fan game Sega vs Capcom released some footage of the mechanics earlier this week. The developer did tweak some of the existing modes from Tatsunoko. Take a look and enjoy the smoothness of this. I thought it was a teaser from Sega themselves.
